It's a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life, For me...And I'm feeling good!!

Hi there!

I started last week on 2/2/2011 and I am down 8.4lbs just from making different food choices. I have found some food alternatives to my "fatty" or "unhealthy" ones and they seem to agree with my body more. Already in just 5 days, I feel more motivated and energetic.

I have adopted a vegan diet and while everyone asks me "what the heck are you doing" and "aren't you just going to be eating salad all the time." I say no. There are so many other alternative items that are out in grocery stores now that actually taste good and are good for you.

Today 2/7/2011
Breakfast: Cheerios, Banana, and Westsoy milk
- It was great! I love this breakfast! I'm not missing anything from before and the Westsoy Organic Unsweetened Soy Milk tastes great in cereal.

That is an example of the great things that I can still have. My body really seems to be reacting to it and it's great! I feel good, my attitude is good, I don't feel like I'm missing anything or deprived of anything.

When I tell people I am doing vegan, they ask "why" or "how long is this going to last" and to them I say STOP! I don't ask why you eat what YOU eat. Let it be what it is. I am doing this because I choose to.

So I put together a spreadsheet so I can keep track of my weight and measurements as well as what specifically labeled Vegan food I like and don't like. It's a great tool first to let me know how I'm doing and secondly to let me know what I can use for other recipes so I don't get burned out on eating the same "safe" food. I really like cooking and coming up with fun things to make.

I'm off to work today and I literally can't wait for the salad bar. I've been looking forward to it since last Thursday when I had it last. It's awesome!

Ramblings...Today's another day...

So I shared some insight on a subject with a co-worker today. Not sure how it exactly came up, but I felt a wealth of knowledge on this situation. We were talking about relationships and friendships and how after years of being "friends" with someone, it can just disappear.

When you are younger, everyone you meet is a friend. Not an acquaintance, but a friend. As you get older, life changes, you grow, and you're not as close to these friends as you once where. It's easy to say you'll get together, but it doesn't always happen. And neither of you want to stay apart, you actually do want to talk about life and the world and what's new. But for the most part, you talk and talk about getting together, but rarely does it happen.

What ever happened to calling someone? With the social sites of myspace, facebook and twitter, even email and texting for that matter, phone calls are really non-existent. I use the phone to call my bank, make payments for bills and order a pizza, but I can do all of those things online too. Why can't I call "friends" and family and speak to them instead of sending an email or texting or sending a message on facebook. Have we all gotten too busy to take a few moments and talk to each other?

I remember the day when I could rattle off phone numbers and addresses of friends and family. I would talk for hours to friends on the phone and call my aunts in CA just to say hi. What do I do now, send them a text or say hi on Facebook. Why? Why can't I just pick up the dang phone and say hi. I called my grandma this morning. She was surprised to hear from me. That's sad. Family should be talking to family regularly. I miss the days of talking on the phone. Now days with cell phones you can talk anywhere to anyone; I love that. How come we don't do it more?

Where would we be without texting? What did we do before texting? Can you remember back that far? Would we have better relationships with our friends and family without texting or messaging on facebook? Just a question. Did we have bad relationships with them then? No.

Can we ever go back to the days of writing letters? Not typed, hand written. I heard from a friend that she received a love letter from her boyfriend. Not a message in her inbox, not a text on her phone. A real, hand written love letter. It blew her away that people still did that. I, myself, haven't written a letter in years. I used to all the time to family, friends that had moved away, etc. It's nice to know that there are still people out there that think you are worth the time to write and the 44 cent stamp.

The simpler times, were the best times! Sitting around with my cousins on our last family trip about 2 weeks ago. We reminisced about the good 'ol times back in the day. When families got together, talked, had fun. Relationships were good back then. Would they be better if we talked more? Got to hear each others voices and not the typed word on the screen? It's more personal and it shows that you care and are making the effort. That's all anyone wants. They want to know that they are worth the effort to make a relationship better.

However you communicate is your own prerogative. Just communicate in a way that shows you care. Whatever the form, whatever the content, it's better than nothing.

Great Family Outing!

We had a great family trip to Rockaway Beach, OR last weekend for my Grandma's 80th birthday. Most everyone drove there on Friday, but Jerry had to work so we left at about 6:30pm, ran into some traffic, made a few stops and got there at 12:15am. This trip should have only take about 4 1/2 hours, but bumper to bumper and big thumper had to rehydrate and pee a few times. But it was fun.

On Saturday we all got up, headed down to hear the shpeel from the Resort and get donuts and coffee. It was very informative and we did a few things he suggested. We all then got in our cars, drove south to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and took the self guided tour. If you like watching people wrap cheese, this is your place. Order of the day was Pepper Jack Cheese - only the best cheese in the world! The best part was sampling some cheese and going through the shop and buying some pepperoni and various cheeses. (Only to know later, I forgot my pepperoni in the resort, boo!)

After the cheesy goodness, we went to the Petting Farm where the kids had a blast, petting the animals. Nevaeh almost had a little too much fun when the goat kept backing up into her face while she was sitting down. Too much fun! Cole and Zeke went on a pony ride in the ring. Zeke was a champ with no fear! Cole needed a little help by mommy Mandy, but he did the last lap himself. Yahoo! I got some great shots of both of them on the horses.

Then we all went our separate ways, some to food and others back to the rooms. Stopped off at Pizza Hut - Jerry has to have his p'zones! Then we all went back to the resort.

The next day, Sunday, Jerry and I decided to have some time to ourselves, get away from kids and the "adults" and go have some fun. We went to lunch at the Beach Bite, good food, amazing Bread bowl with chowder! Then off to the arcade. I beat him at Deal or No Deal and Skeeball, but he killed me in Basketball and the horse race. We used our tickets and bought a few things for the kids to play with like mini whoopi cushions. They loved those and so did their parents.

Also on Sunday, Jerry, my dad, my mom and I attempted to go bike riding. We had been riding around for a little bit until Jerry was testing the shocks on his bike and popped the tire tube. We had tire tubes...in Skylar's car...which was about 40 miles away as they were in Seaside shopping the outlets. So Jerry had to walk the bike back about 2 miles. We all slowly followed him and stopped at the Picnic Basket where they had ice cream so we could cheer him up. Great place and ginormous portions!

Sunday night we had a beach fire. That was the best time, just all of us sitting around talking and making smores. The best smore maker was my dad and my aunt Laurie. Nicely golden brown and she added a Reese' cup! I copied her and now I'm hooked! It's delish! A few of us rebel youngins stayed until after midnight while the rest of them left at about 10. It was great to sit back with my brother, my husband and a few cousins to just chat about the 'good ol times.' Lots of memories came flooding back, some good, some bad, but all in all it was a great time.

Jerry and I left the next day to return to real life. He had to work and so did I.

Next year, we plan to do this again with the family and try to make it an annual event for my grandma's birthday and for the summer. We all have such busy lives, it's nice to get away and get to know each other again!

A little bummed...

So tonight I had a set back. I gave my husband a hug and kiss as he tottled off to bed and I noticed he had his wedding ring on his pinky. I asked him what's up and he said, "my finger is swollen." I looked at him kinda funny and I said, "swollen?" and he said, "well what do you want me to say, I'm fat and it doesn't fit!" Then he walked off to the bedroom.

At that point I realized I have been the worst wife in the world. I know he's an adult and is responsible for himself, but I feel like I have failed him. With our work schedules, him working days and me working nights, I don't get to be home much and make dinners so he fends for himself. Most nights when I get home I see left over pizza in the 'fridge, empty soda bottles, or an empty bag from Jack in the Box in the office.

I really want us to work at this together and it's just so hard. I don't have much energy in the morning from working until late and he's tired when he gets home and is in bed by the time I get home. I get every Sunday off and we do go out and have fun, but I wish we did more active things together. We have been married for almost 2 years, June 7th is our anniversary. We want to start having kids, but right now with my weight it's impossible. I'm somewhat depressed when it comes to this situation and feel like I'm not getting the support I need from Jerry. He thinks it's just all going to be okay and it'll be easy to start a family when I know it's not.

Plus, who wants to be so overweight that they can't run after their kids and play with them? Not me! But I need help!

My Review of Shimano WM40 Multisport Bike Shoes - Women's - '09 Closeout

Originally submitted at REI

The Shimano WM40 Multisport Bike Shoes offer rigid pedal support and lightweight walking traction. These shoes are perfect on urban and mountain trails.

Great! But don't follow the size chart..

5out of 5

Gift: Yes

Sizing: Feels full size too big

Width: Feels true to width

Pros: Simple to Use, Well Ventilated, Durable Sole, Good Traction

Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational

Best Uses: Casual Trails

I originally bought this pair, size 41, for my mom who wears an 8. I asked around about Shimano, and a few people said this size would work for her because of how Shimano fit. But when I received it, it fit me! I normally wear a 9.5-10 and based off the Shimano size chart, this shouldn't have fit me at all. So I ended up keeping this pair for myself and ordering a size 39 and 40 for my mom because I'm not sure what will fit her now. These will be great for riding and walking around while the bike is locked up. They are comfortable, sturdy, good quality and look great! You definitely can't beat the price!

Update Needed...

So I haven't updated in a while - the battle of the bulge still goes on, but other things are amazing. I have a great job working at REI and Jerry loves his job at Costco. Also, this past October we closed on our first house in Auburn! We love it! I'll update more later.

Today is a great day...

Just like I said I would - I weighed in this morning and I lost 5 lbs from last week. YAY! One week at a time or even one day at a time if I have to.

I'm so excited!

First day of blogger...

Good morning...it's 12:10am and I can't go to bed. I came across Bloggers and I HAD to set one up.

Today (monday) is a great day. It is the day I weigh in for the second week and I'm actually excited. I did pretty well this week and I can't wait to see my results. I do have goals for myself, both short term and long term and the short is what I am focusing on. I am about 150lbs overweight (probably more), but I am looking at the first 75lbs right now. That is my first goal and within the first week of weighing in I've lost 4lbs. I only exercised 2 times, but watched my portions and what I was putting into my mouth and what time of day.

One thing I am working on right now for next week are meal plans. I grabbed a few Weight Watcher recipes and I'm going to try them out this week. So I'll let you know how those go.

I'll update my weight/goals as well on BlogtoLose...

Thanks so much!
